Meet Dr. Raymond

Dr. Ray­mond takes med­i­cine seri­ously and her­self lightly. Well respected by her patients and col­leagues, Dr. Patri­cia Ray­mond has a spe­cial pre­scrip­tion for her fel­low med­ical care­givers — heal your­selves before the stress and pres­sure of the pro­fes­sion bring your lives crash­ing down.

Board cer­ti­fied in both Inter­nal Med­i­cine and Gas­troen­terol­ogy, Dr. Ray­mond earned her med­ical degree from the Med­ical Col­lege of Vir­ginia in 1986. She served her intern­ship and res­i­dency at Van­der­bilt Uni­ver­sity Med­ical Cen­ter in Nashville Ten­nessee, and com­pleted her Gas­troen­terol­ogy fel­low­ship at the Med­ical Col­lege of Virginia.

Enter­ing pri­vate prac­tice in Vir­ginia in 1992, she now prac­tices group patient-centered Gas­troen­terol­ogy, and is a Fel­low of both the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Gas­troen­terol­ogy and the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Physicians.

The author of Don’t Jet­ti­son Med­i­cine , Colonoscopy: It’ll Crack u Up! and Colonoscopy Is a Gas!, numer­ous med­ical papers, and edi­to­ri­als, Dr. Ray­mond hosts House­calls, a pop­u­lar regional NPR med­ical talk show, and has served as spokesman for sev­eral phar­ma­ceu­ti­cals. Ray­mond writes reg­u­lar columns in My Fam­ily Doc­tor and Endonurse mag­a­zines. She speaks nation­ally to health care pro­fes­sion­als about rekin­dling our pas­sion for our health care careers. She also presents Colon Can­cer Aware­ness pro­grams as the singing sen­sa­tion, the divine Ms. Butt Meddler!
